West Texas Ambulance Service was started in July 1977 after the city privatized
ambulance service. My brother and I took the first ever Emergency Care
Attendant Course offered in Alpine in February 1976 while on the Alpine
Volunteer Fire Department. In August of 1976 we enrolled in the first EMT
course offered in Alpine. We began our EMT internship and worked part time
with WTAS starting in December 1976. In April of 1977 after graduatiing from
the EMT course we began working full time with WTAS.
After a few years and wanting to expand our education we both enrolled in
Odessa College's Paramedic program in August of 1980. We completed our
